Your stomach is a really dumb calculator. It actually only measures food 1 way to guage your fullness and that’s by how much it stretches. Problem is calories come in all shapes and sizes, and just like in sports, sometimes it’s the little ones you need to watch out for. Let’s use 500 calories as an example (about ¼ of my daily target): I can hold 500 calories of oil –even the healthy stuff- in the palm of my hand; Not very filling. By contrast 500 calories of romaine lettuce fills 66 cups and would take you a couple of hours to eat. Obviously neither by itself is a popular meal choice, but it does demonstrate how whole plant based foods really are a great solution to eating a lot of delicious food, and still maintaining a slim body with an abundance of healthy nutrients to keep you feeling fantastic.
